What to Expect

During the initial exam, a full health history is taken. Your acupuncturist will ask about your health history, family history, symptoms, and lifestyle. Your acupuncturist will also do an in-depth interview about your whole body and emotional health to determine the root cause of your symptoms.

Your acupuncturist will then be able to effectively diagnose your condition using Traditional Chinese Medicine principles. You will receive a handout explaining your diagnosis and treatment plan in your patient portal before your next appointment.

Once your acupuncturist has a diagnosis, she will place hair-thin, sterile needles at specific points along meridian pathways. This insertion of needles is safe and most people find it painless. You will rest with needles in place for 15-30 minutes to allow the body time to balance your specific imbalances. Once this is done, Qi can freely circulate throughout the body, providing adequate nourishment to cells, organs, glands, tissues and muscles. This can eliminate pain and restore balance and harmony, as well as the body’s ability to heal itself—ultimately leading to optimal health and well-being.

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine modalities are a safe, effective, and drug-free therapy that can help address a wide variety of common ailments and problems.
